The Columns Museum of Pike County was looking to refresh their planters on the front steps of the museum, as well as the garden at the entrance of their Foundation and Community Room.
The floral design for the planters included a range of colorful and vibrant annuals to last all season, and bold enough so they can be seen from the Main Street in town.
A new sign was created for the entrance of the Foundation and Community Room to honor Sgt. Milton W. Bailey, and his family. They were a black family of four generations who called Milford, PA home from 1900-1990.
The original landscaping at the entrance was overgrown, and full of invasive plants. It was important to address the cleaning and maintenance of the garden first —with the removal of the invasive plants before proceeding with any new plantings. The client requested that the new design include some plants that bloom yellow flowers—specifically Forsythia, as it was symbolic to the Bailey family's history. The plant selection included a variety of mostly native ferns, perennials and shrubs.
Looking forward to see how this newly planted garden transforms over the next couple of years.
